Information about the Pop-Jazz Bachelor’s Program:

Majors: Vocals, brass, guitar, keyboard, piano, electric bass, double bass, drums, other instruments upon request

Duration: 8 semesters

Degree: Bachelor of Music Education (BMP) Pop-Jazz from the University of Music and Theatre Hamburg, program starts in the winter semester annually from October 1, eligible for BAföG (German student financial aid)

Studied at the University of Music Hannover (DML for Jazz/Rock/Pop Saxophone).

The musical focus of the various band projects lies in the areas of jazz, blues, soul, and interdisciplinary music forms. Numerous funk, studio, TV, and theater productions.

Multiple awards from the Jazz Podium Niedersachsen. Jazz promotion award of the city of Leipzig. Winner of the Yamaha European Saxophone Contest. Winner of the international music competition Torneo Internazionale di Musica. Support for Charlie Mariano, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, and Pat Metheny. Tours and festival concerts, some organized by the Goethe Institute Germany.

Head of the Jazz Program at the Hamburg Conservatory, professional training for musicians with disabilities at the Hamburg Conservatory and the Hamburg State Music Academy, lecturer at the academy and music school of the Hamburg Conservatory, head and lecturer at various workshops and master classes.

Henning Schiewer
Henning Schiewer

E-Bass / Double Bass

Henning Schiewer studied electric bass and double bass from 2014 to 2019 at HMT Rostock and Berklee College of Music in Boston with, among others, Bruce Gertz, John Patitucci, Oscar Stagnaro, and Achim Seifert.

Since 2022, he has been a student in the Dr. Langner Jazz Master program at HfMT Hamburg, focusing on jazz double bass and jazz composition with, among others, Robert Landfermann, Marc Muellbauer, and Wolff Kerschek.

He has also been working as a freelance musician since 2019, playing as a highly regarded sideman in various bands/ensembles, as well as musical and studio productions in jazz and pop. During this time, he played with Gabriel Coburger, Nils Wogram, and Patrick Farrant.

He composes and arranges music for his own projects, the „Schall & Rauch Ensemble“ and „HSQ (Henning Schiewer Quintet),“ combining influences from poetry, classical music, jazz, pop, and world music. In 2024, the first album of his quintet, „Leaves on a Creek,“ will be released. Henning Schiewer has been a scholarship recipient of Berklee College of Music, the Musikfonds Deutschland, the Norbert Janssen Foundation, and the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation.

Shirin Al-Mousa

Studied with Delcina Stevenson, Gé Titulaer, Lydia van Dam, Annett Andriesen, Mark Murphy, Rhiannon, and Kim Nazarian.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in 2002 from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Amsterdam University of the Arts).

For many years, she has worked as both a performing artist and professional lecturer.

As a freelance musician, she has worked in the jazz, soul, and pop fields with Nils Gessinger, Matthias Schriefl, Michiel Borstlap, Buggy Braune, Martin Auer, max-bab, Herb Geller, Wolfgang Schlüter, Peter Weniger, Lee Konitz, Don Menza, Peter Bernstein, Bobby Shew, Summit Jazz Orchestra, Sönke Düwer (Ensemble du Verre), and the Criss Cross Bigband.

Lukas Klapp
Lukas Klapp

Piano

Born in 1989 in Minden, North Rhine-Westphalia, raised in Bad Oeynhausen, Lukas began playing the piano at a young age and studied jazz piano at the HfMT Hamburg from 2008 to 2015 with Prof. Burkhardt Braune and Prof. Tinatin Gambashidze.

As a freelance musician, he has worked with renowned jazz artists such as Ack van Rooyen, Alex Sipiagin, Maria Joao, Claus Stötter, Jim Black, Hans Glawischnig, and Sebastian Gille

. He explores various styles, from experimental/contemporary duo projects („Klapp/Lücker“; „Kerschek/Klapp“) to modern jazz groups and electronic groove-oriented bands like „ToyToy“ and the „Lena Geue Band“.

He is a regular member of various projects led by the Hamburg bassist Giorgi Kiknadze („Giorgi Kiknadze Quartet“; „David Bowie Project“; „Beatles Project“) and recently founded his own quartet with Percy Pursglove (trumpet), Ingmar Heller (bass), and Björn Lücker (drums).

Since spring 2015, Lukas has been part of the teaching team at the Hamburg Conservatory. He enjoys the enriching collaboration with students in jazz piano instruction for major and minor subjects, piano trio ensemble, and jazz seminars for classical pianists.

His latest release is the duo album „Kerschek/Klapp“ (2020), a concert recording from the Alte Druckerei in Hamburg with guitarist Sven Kerschek.

Bernard Fichtner
Bernard Fichtner

Guitar

Born in Canada, studied at Berklee College of Music (Boston/USA). Active as a live and studio musician and dedicated lecturer in Hamburg for many years.

As a traveler between stylistic worlds, he feels at home in jazz just as much as in funky-groovy rock and pop. In addition to his diverse work for other artists (D. Horwitz, E. Ofarim, G. Danzer, European Film Orchestra, among others), he also caught the attention of the specialized press with the release of his debut album „Points of View.“

Björn Lücker
Björn Lücker

Drums

Born in 1967, internationally awarded jazz drummer, composer, painter, and a lecturer at the Hamburg Conservatory for 19 years. He has taught jazz students in the subjects of drums, band training, and rhythm training since the beginning of the jazz class.

He has been a prominent figure in the Hamburg jazz scene for many years, leading his own band, the „Björn Lücker Aquarian Jazz Ensemble.“ He has also performed on national and international tours and preformed at concerts with renowned musicians such as Gary Peacock, Walter Norris, Benny Bailey, Dusko Goykovich, and Anna-Lena Schnabel, as well as with the big bands of Norddeutscher and Hessischer Rundfunk, and the Hamburg Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestras.

His musical range spans from traditional to avant-garde jazz and includes classical and crossover projects.

Claas Ueberschär
Claas Ueberschär

Trumpet

Studied at Folkwang University in Essen and attended the New School and Mannes College in New York on a DAAD scholarship.

Since the late 90s, he has been a key part of the Hamburg jazz scene. He has led his own bands and has been a guest in numerous other projects. Along his musical journey, Claas Ueberschär has also collaborated with musicians from soul, pop, and hip hop (including Gary Thomas, Sinfonia Baltica, Kurtis Blow, The Supremes, Rocko Schamoni, Annett Louisan, and Roger Cicero in recent years).

With his current quartet claasue4, the second album „bli“ was released in early 2016.
